Make your own cough syrup
Uche, uche uche
You can make a herbal cough syrup yourself. Beneficial and delicious! Here you will find an (almost) ready recipe for about 250 ml of homemade cough syrup.
How do you make that?
Take one part licorice root, one part fennel seed, and three parts thyme. Boil this for 20-30 minutes in 500 ml water in a saucepan with the lid on. Then strain it with a tea filter or a fine mesh strainer.
As long as it is still warm, you can dissolve 1.5 grams of bay leaf licorice in it for the taste. I myself buy it at an organic shop in a small package of the brand 'Zen'. These are small pieces so that it dissolves a little faster. That is not very fast yet, so you can put it on a simmer plate to speed it up a bit. Or get the mortar over it beforehand if you have one.
You can also add honey to the cold mixture, but keep in mind that children up to 1 year old are not allowed to use honey!
In this way it can be kept for a few weeks in a cool place. If you pour it hot into a bottle, close it well and let it cool upside down, it can even be kept for a few years unopened. For when you want to stock up, for example ;-)
You can thicken it with sugar (6 to 10 teaspoons) or the juice of a (half) lemon. That preserves again and because it becomes thicker it also lingers longer in the throat.
You need about 6 pieces of the Zen bay leaf for 1.5 grams. Less is also possible, because it is very sweet, especially in combination with sugar.
Have fun creating and if you have any questions about it please let me know! Cindy
